Serve at 12 – 14 Deg.

Pair with meat dishes like lamb or venison or fish like tuna or Norwegian salmon.

A limited production of 5 barrels only.

This wine is a true reflection of my passion of expressing exceptional vineyard sites in their most natural light and a cool growing climate. Intense perfumed notes of bright cherry and strawberry on the nose, followed by notes of red forest fruits, sensual and silky in the mouth with a lingering freshness and texture on the finish.

Serve at 12-15 Deg.

Pair with tuna, lamb, beef or mushroom risotto. For something sweet chocolate fondant.

Drinking well now, with ageing potential of 5–7 years, during which it will develop added savoury complexity, softer tannins and earthy spice notes.

Eerste Hoop Pinot Noir 2022

In the 18th century, pioneers—including Governor Willem Adriaan van der Stel—cultivated vineyards along the Bot River, calling the land First Hope. Today, this historic site is home to Eerste Hoop.

The nose opens with red cherry, wild strawberry and cranberry, lifted by hints of rose petal, dried herbs and soft spice. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and silky, with refined tannins, fresh acidity and flavours of red plum, pomegranate and gentle savoury undertones. The finish is long, clean and subtly earthy, showing the finesse typical of cool-climate Pinot.

Serve at 14-16 Deg.

Pair with pork belly bao buns with hoisin or mushroom ramen with soy and ginger.

This 2022 has the structure to evolve beautifully for the next 6–8 years.

Perfumed layers of red fruits; the warm, rich spice and woody notes mingle with earthy mushroom and dried flower characters. The generous and polished palate is gripped with fine, chalky tannins. Ripe raspberry fruit provides some flesh to the mid palate, with long savoury liquorice flavour in the finish.

This wine is made from Pinot Noir, clone 667, planted two decades ago on the Stellenbosch mountain as an experimental block. In my search for special and undiscovered sites and wines, I found the grapes and have followed their path into this fantastic example of what potential there truly exists for Pinot Noir in Stellenbosch when the right clone is fitted into the perfect site and terroir. A wine for maturation and enjoyment when the time is truly ripe for the reward. This wine signifies something truly special to me as a winemaker and is part of my journey in life and wine in South Africa, hence the name, Camino Africana, The African Way.
