A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 6% Petit Verdot, it was matured for 12 months in barrel, 40% new before a further 12 months in barrel, 70% new. Alc: 14.5%.

The nose shows plum, cassis, violets, incense, pencil shavings and a faint trace of crushed leaf, though green character is all but absent. The wine is monumental in scale yet defined by clarity rather than weight. Fruit concentration is matched by vivid acidity, while the tannins are firm and architectural, pointing clearly to a long future ahead. It combines succulence with structure at the highest level and sets a new benchmark for Cape Bordeaux blends.

Hogan Divergent Red Blend 2023

38% Carignan, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Cinsault – the Carignan from Wellington, Cab from a young untrellised Helderberg vineyard, the Cinsault is from a 1976 block, also Helderberg. Cranberry and cassis, rose, fynbos and fresh herbs on the nose while the palate shows a dense core of fruit but also plenty of freshness, the tannins fine and mouth-coating. Inspired by the red blend of the great Lebanese winery Chateau Musar, this is again nicely realised. Alc: 13.56%.

Hogan Chenin Blanc 2025

Grapes from two Paardeberg blocks, one planted in 1979 and the other in 1987. Matured for 10 months in older oak. Expressive aromatics of pear, peach, citrus, floral perfume and herbs. The palate has impressive fruit purity, moderate but sufficient acidity and a gently savoury finish. A charming, subtle rendition of this wine. Alc: 12%.

Hogan The Galvanised Chardonnay 2025

80% of the grapes from Simonsberg, 20% from Helderberg. Matured for 10 months in older oak. Lemon plus hints of oatmeal, vanilla and reduction on the nose. The palate is composed – neither too powerful, nor too taut – with excellent fruit concentration and bright acidity. A lightly creamy texture and a gently savoury finish add to the wine’s sense of completeness. Alc: 12.5%.

Hogan Mirror for the Sun Cabernet Franc 2025

From a vineyard the lower Helderberg on granitic soils. Matured for nine months in older oak. Red cherry, raspberry, rose, garden herbs and white pepper on the nose. Lovely fruit expression – ripe in the best way, by no means underdone – alongside bright acidity and soft tannins. Immensely pleasurable to drink. Alc: 14%.

Kottabos Pinotage 2025

100% whole-bunch fermentation before maturation lasting 11 months in older barrels. Red and black cherry, rose and fynbos on the nose. The palate is light and lean – bright acidity and nicely grippy tannins make for an elegant, slightly austere drinking experience. Alc: 13.5%.

Kottabos Red Blend 2025

78% Grenache, 22% Syrah. The former is 100% whole-bunch fermented and matured in concrete, the latter destemmed and matured in older oak. Highly expressive aromatics of red berries, pomegranate, orange, fynbos, floral perfume and pepper. The palate is vivid and fruit-driven, with snappy acidity and powdery tannins. An absolute blast to drink. Alc: 13.5%.

Kottabos Chenin Blanc 2025

From Polkadraai Hills. Five days of skin contact before maturation lasting 10 months in older oak. Pretty aromatics of jasmine, herbs, pear and peach. The palate is sappy and fresh – more rounded and less grippy than expected. An easy style that prioritises charm over depth. Alc: 13.5%.
