Platter * * * * – Tension of opposites on lemon- & tropical fruit-toned 2016 from Elgin
This wine has the refinement of a good Sancerre, with a little more richness of texture and complexity on the palate. It has fabulous intensity of aroma and flavour. When Martin Meinert married Leigh Ann Barry (affectionately known as “La Barry”), who only drinks white wine, he started making a Sauvignon Blanc in her honour. It made a fantastic début with its beautiful balance of old world restraint and new world flamboyance, and over the years it has just got better and better. The fruit for this wine is sourced from superb growers who Martin knows and trusts in the cool-climate Elgin region.
Perfect as aperitif, or match with delicate dishes like fresh seafood salads, oysters and even tuna tartare with a very subtle wasabi sauce.
