Platter * * * * – Chenin, backed by muscat de Frontignan, semillon, clairette & chardonnay, all fused in older 500L French oak. 2016 tasty if perhaps lacking intrigue of 2015.
Vibrant golden yellow in appearance. An initial brace of sea-spray reveals powerful tropical notes of litchi and lime giving way to subtle waxy, honeysuckle aromatics. The savoury, mineral core firmly supports this wine, providing a framework for layers of flavour coursing through the palate. Papaya, custard apple, blood orange flavours form an exotic mélange that is balanced by a bead of chalky acidity that lends the wine a lasting finish. Given the high quality of these vineyard sites and the traditional way in which the wines were vinified, they have a long life ahead of them in bottle provided they are well cellared.
