Description
Arno Smith’s passion for winemaking began on his family farm in the Tankwa Karoo and was nurtured by mentor Lukas Wentzel of Groote Post. After studying Viticulture at Elsenburg, he refined his craft in the U.S. and Australia. He later became winemaker at Hillcrest Estate in Durbanville and in 2021, Arno launched his own label, Arno Smith Wine Company.
Verdelho, a Portuguese variety from Madeira, produces small berries with a high skin-to-juice ratio, resulting in aromatic, full-bodied and complex wines. It offers vibrant lemon, citrus and pear notes with leafy or spicy undertones and a light, powdery texture on the finish.

Food pairing – think paella and tiger prawns with a little garlic butter and lime.
A well-made Verdelho can age beautifully, gaining depth over time.
