VINEYARD
Girl Next Door is made up of two parcels. The original block being
0.38ha 19 year old trellised vineyard grown on sandy gravel
soils.The other being our SW facing 0.2ha Noordhoek parcel on
sandstone. These incredible vines are grown on the windswept
Cape Peninsula, both parcels within 3.5km of the ocean.
VINIFICATION
Birds love these vineyards, netting and extreme sorting in both
vineyard and cellar is the norm. Grapes are cooled overnight
before spontaneous fermentation in open top fermenters and
conical foudre. Around 50% of the fruit is left as whole bunches
spending 2 weeks on the skins before being basket pressed. Aging
takes place for 10 months in foudre and old 500L French oak
barrels.
TASTING NOTES
Girl Next Door is a wine that expresses its location. Violets, plums,
cherries, white pepper and black olives, all held together by a
tightly wound saline core compliments of the cold Atlantic. 2024
while slightly closed at the moment, has all the promise and
aromatic potential we have come to expect, a wine that will benefit
from many years in bottle.
