VINEYARDS
Two parcels along the Breede River, the terroir is incredible, river
pebbles on shale. One gets the impression there is no soil, just a
crunchy rocky stroll through the bush vine planted Syrah and
Touriga Nacional.
VINIFICATION
Due to the extremity of the site a lot of sorting is required,
particularly in warm vintages. Perfect bunches are spontaneously
fermented in open top fermenters with 10% of the Syrah left as
whole bunches. Fermented grapes were basket pressed before
aging in old 500L French oak barrels for 10 months.
TASTING NOTES
The 2025 vintage sees Touriga Nacional taking the lead in the
blend again, some of the most perfect bunches I have seen from
this vineyard. The wine shows plums, cherries and blueberries with
an underlying oyster shell salinity. Tannins are robust, yielding a
wine that while approachable when young will improve with age
over the next 10 years.
