Getwine is proud to celebrate 20 incredible years – and it’s all thanks to you, our loyal customers and supporters.

From our humble beginnings to becoming South Africa’s leading online wine retailer, this occasion would not have been possible without your ongoing trust and support. Every bottle bought, every recommendation shared, and every kind word along the way has helped shape our journey — and we are deeply grateful.

As we raise a glass to this incredible milestone, here’s a brief look at the landmarks that have shaped our journey:

• 1986 – Jan Wegner opens our first liquor outlet in Tamboerskloof, Cape Town
• 1989 – Jan and his son Karel expand the business with a second store in Claremont
• 1990 – A third outlet is added in Cape Town, with Johan Wegner at the helm
• 1995 – Ad Wegner joins the growing family business
• May 2005 – Getwine is launched, making quality wines accessible online across South Africa
• 2013 – Strong growth leads to the acquisition of a 1300m² warehouse in Salt River — still our home base today
• 2020 – Expansion continues with the acquisition of Gauteng-based Sale Wine
• 2023 – Further growth with the acquisition of Boucheron Wines and Wine4All
• 2023 – Later in 2023, we acquire Cybercellar, significantly broadening our online reach
• 2024 – We launch our exclusive monthly Wine Club, offering hand-selected wines tailored to the personal preferences of our valued customers
• 2025 – We celebrate 20 years of Getwine! 🥂
