Description
Porseleinberg is home to a groundbreaking Cape Syrah that exemplifies the essence of terroir-driven, authentic wine. The extremely rugged and dry schistous mountain doesn’t invite easy viticulture, but of course, extreme terroir produces extreme wine! Callie Louw was the farmer, winemaker and custodian of this special vineyard. Now, Eben Meiring. Callie produced a profound and frankly delicious wine.
Mid ruby colour in the glass, the nose is expansive and intense, unfurling with notes of hedgerow fruit, black pepper, bay leaf and violets. The palate is bright with summer fruits and precise in structure. There is the expected power of fruit yet it is more focused and less heavy than in previous years.
70% submerged cap. 30% done conventionally with pump-overs. 85% wholebunch and 15% destemmed fruit. Maturation lasted 12 months – 90% foudre, 10% concrete.
