Wine of Origin: Paarl
Grapes: Shiraz, Grenache noir, Carignan (Rhône-inspired blend)
Vineyard:
Shiraz from Paarl on koffieklip soils. The Grenache noir from the outskirts of Paarl from more weathered granite soils. The Carignan is from Wellington planted as bush vines.
Winemaking:
Each parcel fermented naturally with 10% – 15% whole bunch, remainder destemmed. Pressed off skins and aged for 16 months in older 225 L French oak barrels before final blending, filtration and bottling.
Tasting Notes:
Layered and spice-driven. Dark berry, dried herbs, cracked black pepper and a note of forest floor from the whole-bunch component. Medium to full – bodied with fine-grained tannin and a savory finish that carries.
